Chapter 3: Huts on the Beach: Food comes first.

Chapter 3: Huts on the Beach
Food comes first.
Perspective: Jack

So the most important task is obviously hunting for meat right? Of course it is. So why is Ralph saying that building shelters is more important? I don’t think it’s that important for the little uns’ to have a shelter; they can tough it out on the ground. Ralph and I didn’t get along very well this week because he was trying to convince me that the shelter was our number 1 priority.
Of the various jobs of the group of us on the island, my choir’s job is the most important. My choir’s job is to hunt the pigs. Ralph and Simon build the shelters. Everyone’s supposed to help with that but everyone gets bored. Simon’s a freak. I didn’t want him in my choir but I had to. He passes out a lot. He also meditates. It’s really weird. He’s a freak show. He’s trying to convince us that the beastie is something to be calm about.
Oh yeah, the beastie. Personally, I think it’s a load of bull, but if it is true, if there is a beastie, I think we’ll die. The boy with the birth mark saw the beastie, and died in the fire the next day. It’s like the island’s not good, or that the beastie is a bad omen. Ralph says that when he’s alone in the forest, he feels like he’s being stalked or hunted. But I’m not scared. No beastie’s gonna get to me… I’ll kill it… if I can.
