Chapter 4: Painted Faces and Long Hair:
I think we could all be a little more civilized here!
Perspective: Simon
Dear Diary,
Jack told all of us to leave the fire so we could hunt. Well while we were hunting, the fire went out. It wouldn’t have been that big of a deal if a ship hadn’t passed by when it was out. So the ship didn’t see us. I feel terrible. We could’ve been rescued… but Jack let it go out because he was so focused on the pig.
Jack made us paint our faces to. He said that it was for camouflage, so they can’t see us when we sneak up on them. Jack and Roger and everyone else, they go crazy when their faces are painted. I think that the more they paint their faces, the more their going to… change. To be honest, when my face is painted, I just feel stupid. But it is kind of cool to see something that can’t see you.
The little ones are sweet. I felt bad when Roger threw sand at Percival, and then all the other kids copied him to. They just need correct guidance, and here is not the place for that. They’ll do anything the big ones do, because they’re little. They usually just play and eat ad swim and have the runs though. Yuck.
The mood on the island is tense for the choir and the big ones, but relaxed and fun for the little ones. I think that next on the Island; we need to figure out about the beastie, like what it is and what it does and such.
Yours truly,
Simon
