Chapter 11: Castle Rock

Chapter 11: Castle Rock

1: Piggy tells Ralph to blow the conch.

2: Because it is what is right, because they are rightfully Piggy’s, and what Jack did was just wrong.

3: Civilized and clean, not like savages.

4: Roger.

5: Hunting.

6: A thief.

7: They get captured and taken to Jack’s tribe.

8: I don’t understand this question.

‘The rock struck Piggy a glancing blow from chin to knee; the conch exploded into a thousand white fragments and ceased to exist. Piggy fell forty feet and landed on his back across the square red rock in the sea.’ Piggy’s death was one of the most gruesome things of the entire book. As the quote above shows, this scene was shocking and repulsive. I blame Roger for Piggy’s death because he sent the rock down to hit Piggy.
‘High overhead, Roger, with a sense of delirious abandonment, leaned all his weight on the lever.’ Roger pushed down the rock that killed Piggy. He also threw rocks at Ralph to actually hit him. ‘Silence and pause; but in the silence a curious air-noise, close by Ralph’s head. He gave it half his attention—and there it was again; a faint “Zup!” Someone was throwing stones: Roger was dropping them, his one hand still on the lever.’
Because Roger threw rocks at Ralph, this shows him purposely hurting him. Also, he pushed all of his weight on the lever and released the rock. There is no way he could accidentally put all of his weight on something; and even if he did mean to release the rock, but not hit or kill Piggy, the rock is pointing strait at him. There is no possible way it wouldn’t hit a blind man or boy.
In conclusion, I accuse Roger of murdering Piggy because he purposely released the rock that killed Piggy, and you can’t blame the rock, you have to blame the person that pushed it. For the reasons throughout my paragraphs, I charge Roger for the murder of Piggy.
